The Church of the Velir
Description
The Church of the Velir is the kingdom's dominant faith, built around the worship of the Prophet—a human who ascended to divinity—and sustained by a vast architecture of doctrine that governs everything from the size of a candle flame to the proper interpretation of sacred scripture. It presents itself as the keeper of spiritual order, but its priests enforce purity laws that feel more like instruments of control than expressions of genuine belief, and even the devout among its clergy struggle to answer the simplest questions about the theology they uphold. The Church is powerful enough to shape the kingdom's culture and suspicious enough of outsiders to breed quiet xenophobia, yet pragmatic enough to buy candles from a heathen when it suits them.
